Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday did a balancing act between the old guard and young blood in Rajasthan. Gandhi picked veteran Ashok Gehlot as the next chief minister of the state and young leader Sachin Pilot as deputy chief minister. The move is significant as Gandhi has tried to accommodate the two factions in the new government.

ఎట్టకేలకు కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీ అధిష్టానం రాజస్థాన్ ముఖ్యమంత్రి అభ్యర్థిని ఖరారు చేసింది. పార్టీ సీనియర్ నేత అశోక్ గెహ్లాట్‌ను సీఎంగా ప్రకటించింది. సీఎం రేసులో ఉన్న మరో నేత సచిన్ పైలట్‌కు ఉప ముఖ్యమంత్రి పదవిని ఇచ్చింది. పైలట్ రాజస్థాన్ కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీ అధ్యక్షుడుగా కూడా కొనసాగనున్నారు. కాంగ్రెస్ అధిష్టానం నిర్ణయం నేపథ్యంలో అశోక్ గెహ్లాట్ మూడోసారి ముఖ్యమంత్రిగా ప్రమాణ స్వీకారం చేయనున్నారు. సచిన్ పైలట్ ముఖ్యమంత్రి పదవి రేసులో గట్టిగా పోటీలో నిలబడ్డారు. కానీ అధిష్టానం చివరకు గెహ్లాట్ వైపు మొగ్గు చూపింది.
